I wish to base my work on primarily that of Sophie Calle and Dave Nitsche. Despite being inspired by other photographers these two artist impacted my thought process the most as they both use aspects in their work that I wish to include in my project.
One of these aspects is the simple presentation of Nitsche's work, all of his photos feature a solid coloured background or a gradated effect partially produced by his lighting set up. These enable the audience's attention to be drawn to the inanimate objects he used- another quality I wish to include in my work. I feel that by using inanimate objects I would be able to create unrealistic compositions yet still have a sense of realism due to the viewer linking the everyday items to their own lives. Also by using the same object(s) throughout with only one variable I would be able to tie the series of images together.

Sophie Calle photographed a human in her project Suite Vénitienne which Isn't actually something I would like to do in my project, despite this there is an aspect of her work that I would still like to include in my own. Her photo series was based on her following a man around, being a stranger to her as well as the audience the viewer should have felt distant but due to Calle's parallel diary the photos actually appear quite intimate. I couldn't think of a way to directly implement this feature into my work but felt that by presenting a subject that may be close to home for some viewers would allow them to appear more intimate, also through her diary entries she was able to present how she visualised the world I feel that I can also do something similar through my images as I will present how I visualise words.
