Through Unit 1 my knowledge about the history of photography has expanded significantly, I was able to learn about multiple photographers and movements as well as learn how to better manage my time when it came to creating photo sets. Some of the photographers I've studied such as Uta Barth and Tom Wood I was introduced to by teachers while others such as Dave Nitsche I came across while researching photography genres.
I believe that through creating a response to works of other photographers I have been able to improve my photography techniques and knowledge, prior to my section on focus I had difficulty remembering how the aperture affected the focal range and shutter speed.
I also now have a better understanding of conceptual and abstract photography - two forms I would often confuse with each other, I feel that I'm able to find a deeper meaning in photos that interest me by taking into account the formal elements that were used and the period in which it was taken.
An entirely new experience to me was the dark room as I had previously only heard about it - it's turned out to be one of my favourite places to experiment with photos where as before I would have preferred digitally editing my photos due to the ability to undo my mistakes. I believe that through the dark room I've been able to see black and white Images not just as basic photos and create images I would have never thought could be created.
Overall I feel that I'm able to see my progress throughout Unit 1 and I'm happy with how much my work and thought process has changed so far.
