In this AS unit we are required to develop an idea from preselected questions, the full brief is featured below.
I've decided to research 'Evidence' as it would allow me to take pictures in a documentary style which I have been interested in for a while and further explored here and here. I created a Pinterest board with images I felt would fall under this heading of 'Evidence' and further inspire my work.
We were also given a photograph with an image from our chosen theme then asked to note what we noticed about the image
I had a image of a shed from Peter Fraser's 1985 'The Valleys' project.
Below are some of the notes I made on the image:

A week into Unit 2 we were given a badge with a quote relating to photography, the quote I received was by Paul Strand and read 'Your photography is a record of your living for anyone who really sees' . We were asked to research our quote author and think of how we felt about the quote and could relate it to our work in preparation for a short interview.
To the left are my responses to the questions. I felt that this quote could be closely related to an idea for a final piece I had begun which was inspired by Christopher Nunn as well as my other ideas. Who was x and what contribution did he/she make to our understanding of photography? Paul Strand was an American photographer whose work covered many subject areas, he used photography to raise political awareness, this different medium assisted in altering people's perceptions. Explain what he/she meant when they wrote the above quotation I feel that Strand was saying that photography can be used to present a deeper meaning to daily events as well as your influence on the world be it small or big. What connections can you make between the ideas of and your own practice? As my theme is evidence I believe that by recording how I influence society I will simultaneously be able to document evidence of how my views have changed |
